How to use the random data generator

  1. Choose a data type: full names, email addresses or full user profiles (name, email and city).
  2. Set the quantity (1–20) and press Generate Random Data.
  3. Copy any entry with its copy button and paste it into your form, seed file or spreadsheet.

Why use fake data?

Developers, testers and designers constantly need realistic-looking placeholder records: to fill a signup form during testing, seed a development database, demo a dashboard to a client or check how a layout copes with long names. Using real customer data for this is risky and, under laws such as the GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, may be unlawful. Generated data lets you test realistically without exposing anyone's personal information.

Safe by design

Generated email addresses use domains such as example.com, example.net and example.org, which are reserved by the IETF (RFC 2606) for documentation and testing and can never belong to a real person. Test emails you send to them simply go nowhere, so you will not spam a stranger by accident.

Testing ideas

  • Check that form validation accepts names with apostrophes and hyphens.
  • Seed a staging database with a few dozen users to test search and pagination.
  • Fill UI mock-ups so screenshots look realistic without showing real customers.
  • Combine with the UUID generator for record IDs and the lorem ipsum generator for bios and comments.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real people?

No. Names are random combinations of common first and last names. Any resemblance to a real person is coincidental.

Can I use this data in production?

It is meant for testing, demos and development only. Don't use it to create accounts on other people's services.
